Privacy Policy
Effective October 25, 2026. PlateBook is made by Atlanticus Innovations, LLC (“we”). Questions: privacy@platebookapp.com.
What PlateBook is
PlateBook is a personal dish diary. You log dishes you ate at restaurants, whether you’d order them again, photos and notes. Everything you log is private unless you choose to share it with followers or make a share link.
What we collect
- Account: your email address (or the identifier Apple or Google gives us when you sign in with them, which may be a relay address), a display name, an optional handle, bio and photo. We never store a password; sign-in is by code or by Apple/Google.
- Your diary: restaurants, dishes, verdicts, star ratings, tags, reviews, private notes, photos and the time you ate.
- Location: only when you use it. Finding the restaurant you’re at, and browsing places on the Nearby map, use your location at that moment: we send that position (or the map area you are looking at) to Amazon Location Service to look up places, and we do not store it or keep it in our logs. If you turn on the “arrived at a restaurant” reminder, the app checks your location in the background to notice when you are near a place you have logged; location is processed on your phone and only the restaurant you pick is sent to us. You can turn this off at any time in Settings. On Android the map itself is drawn by Google Maps, so Google receives the map area you are looking at, under Google’s privacy policy.
- Searches: what you type to find a restaurant is sent with the map area to Amazon Location Service; searches for people stay on our servers. We use search text to answer the search and do not store it or keep it in our logs.
- Photos: you pick or take them. We remove camera metadata, including GPS tags, from every photo before storing it.
- Suggestions: when you suggest a dish to someone you follow or who follows you, we keep the suggestion and its optional note (up to 280 characters) so that person can see it. Only the two of you can see it.
- Menu photos you snap are sent to Anthropic’s Claude to read the dish names and prices; the photo is stored privately and the extracted dishes are shared with other PlateBook users at that restaurant.
- Device: a push-notification token if you allow notifications, the device name for your sessions list, and standard server logs (IP address, request times) kept for 1 year for security.
- Crash reports: we use Sentry to collect crash and error reports, which may include device model, OS version and the screen you were on. They do not include your diary contents.
How we use it
To run the diary, show you your own history at a restaurant, let you share with people you choose, send the reminders you turn on, and keep the service secure. We send email only for signing in and account notices. We do not sell your data, show ads, or use your diary to train AI models.
Who can see what
- Private notes are only ever visible to you.
- Entries are private by default. If you set one to “followers”, people whose follow you accepted can see it in their feed.
- A share link you create shows that one entry to anyone with the link, until you remove the link.
- Dishes you add to a restaurant’s menu (by typing or from a menu photo) are shared with everyone, without your name.
- If your account is public, your profile card and follower-visible entries can be seen at platebookapp.com/u/your-handle.
Where it lives
On Amazon Web Services in the United States. Photos are served through Amazon CloudFront. Email is sent through Amazon SES. Push notifications go through Expo’s push service to Apple and Google.
Deleting your account
In the app: Settings → Delete account. Every session ends immediately and your account disappears from PlateBook. Your data is permanently deleted within 7 days (the window lets you undo by signing back in). Dishes you added to shared menus remain, without any link to you. You can also request deletion at platebookapp.com/delete-account.
Your rights
You can see and edit everything in the app. Email us to request a copy of your data or to ask anything else. We respond within 30 days.
Children
PlateBook is not for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We’ll post changes here and, for anything material, tell you in the app.
